  • Dr. Joy Bui is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist born and raised in New Orleans who has extensive experience working across the lifespan, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and families. In addition to comprehensive experience and training providing services to adults and families across clinical, educational, and forensic contexts, she has completed additional specialized training in pediatric psychology and infant mental health, with advanced expertise in early childhood and developmental assessment and intervention.

    Dr. Bui earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychology from the Florida School of Professional Psychology. She also holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a child and adolescent specialization from FSPP and a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Orleans. During her APA-approved internship, Dr. Bui completed a fellowship in Infant Mental Health and received advanced training in working with infants, young children (ages 0–5), and families through Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. Her clinical foundation emphasizes early identification, prevention, and intervention, while also supporting individuals across developmental stages through adolescence and adulthood.

    Dr. Bui provides comprehensive psychological services, including developmental evaluations, educational evaluations, pediatric psychological assessments, forensic evaluations, and workers’ compensation psychological evaluations, as well as individual, family, and group therapy. She has extensive experience conducting evaluations and treatment in schools, outpatient clinics, private practice, community mental health centers, academic medical centers, juvenile justice settings, and forensic contexts.

     Her assessment and clinical experience spans a wide range of presenting concerns, including 

    Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Depression, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Trauma, Grief/loss, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injuries, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), disruptive behavior disorders, family relations, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, learning issues, couples, school performance and behavior, self-esteem, Eating Disorders, substance-related concerns, and sexual assault, repetitive behaviors, military involvement, and severe mental health concerns.  In addition, Dr. Bui has specialized experience conducting workers’ compensation evaluations, fitness-for-duty evaluations, disability determinations, Department of Defense related evaluations, and pre-surgical psychological assessments.

    Dr. Bui’s professional background also includes roles in research, teaching, supervision, and leadership. She has served as a research coordinator, published peer-reviewed journal articles and a book chapter, and presented at both national and international conferences. Her scholarly and professional interests include child development, educational access, family systems, mental health disparities, and best practices in psychological testing across developmental stages. She has taught and mentored graduate students and held leadership roles within professional and student psychological organizations.

    Deeply committed to community engagement, Dr. Bui has dedicated years of volunteer service to underserved, at-risk, inpatient, and justice-involved youth. She frequently volunteers with Special Olympics, Autism awareness initiatives, and schools and daycare centers throughout the Greater New Orleans area.

     Her clinical philosophy emphasizes strength-based, developmentally informed care, celebrating individual differences while supporting skill-building, resilience to help individuals achieve their goals.


    Dr. Bui utilizes a developmentally informed, evidence-based approach tailored to the needs of each individual and referral context. Her clinical work integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, behavioral and parent-based interventions, psychoeducation, and strengths-based strategies, with careful attention to developmental level, family systems, cultural context, and functional outcomes. Dr. Bui strives to create a collaborative and supportive space, where clients of all ages feel safe to explore concerns and build on their strengths. Therapy is viewed as a collaborative process, with care thoughtfully tailored to each individual and family’s needs, values, and goals.

     She has training and experience across multiple therapeutic modalities, including Play Therapy, Parent–Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Child–Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)–informed interventions, Interpersonal Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, solution-focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and client-centered approaches. These modalities are applied flexibly to support emotional regulation, behavior change, relational functioning, and skill development across the lifespan.

    Fun Facts: Dr. Bui enjoys playing beach volleyball and soccer. She is a foodie, likes traveling, and painting. She also loves spending time with her family and dog, Tucker.
