  • Dr. Erin Skaff Vandenweghe is a Louisiana and Florida licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Louisiana Licensed Medical Psychologist with Advanced Practice designation. She has been in clinical practice in the greater New Orleans area since 2002. Her work has included outpatient and inpatient psychological and presurgical evaluations, crisis response and psychotherapy and psychotropic medication management interventions with a variety of individuals, groups and families. She has training and experience in treatment of children, adolescents, and adults, including those with physical injuries or other trauma, mood and personality disorders, cognitive and behavioral issues, pain and relationship issues. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with board certified Neuropsychologists and Forensic Psychology practitioners, child specialists, and Autism Centers. Prior to focusing on the current outpatient medical psychology practice, she was affiliated with East Jefferson General Hospital and West Jefferson Medical Center in Louisiana. Dr. Skaff was the originator and program coordinator for the Jefferson Parish Transitional Care Center post-Katrina. She has served as adjunct faculty at Tulane University, Department of Psychology. She is the recent past president for The Extra Mile Board, a regional non-profit assisting those with severe mental illness and developmental disabilities, substance dependencies, and related quality of life problems. She is an active member of the Louisiana Academy of Medical Psychologists for whom she has served years as Membership and Nominations Committee Chair and then as Continuing Education Committee Chair.

    Dr. Skaff holds her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Florida School of Professional Psychology. She earned a subsequent post-doctoral Masters of Science Degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Alliant University - California. She is a graduate of Newcomb College of Tulane University for pre-medical and bachelor’s psychology education. She earned additional Masters’ Degrees in Public Health (Maternal and Child Health/Health Education Communication) from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and in Clinical Psychology from University of Sarasota Graduate Programs. She trained and worked within the Florida Juvenile and Adult Court System and Children’s Homes and then completed her internship in child/adolescent and adult clinical psychology at Carolinas Medical Center, Behavioral Health Center in North Carolina. Dr. Skaff completed a post-doctoral emergency services, crisis intervention and stress management fellowship at the University of Tennessee, Health Sciences Center, Regional Medical Center, Memphis Police & Fire Departments, VA and worked with the post-911 Pentagon Task Force. She continues her clinical work through in-person and telehealth services with private practice patients and supervises training experiences for college, masters, doctoral, and post-doctoral level psychology students and medical psychology practitioners in the greater New Orleans area. Dr. Skaff's current clinical practice focuses on specialized psychological and presurgical evaluations, psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions, and psychopharmacogenetic consultation services.


    Dr. Skaff is also a wife and active mother of two young boys and enjoys participation in their academic and athletic endeavors. She has served as coach and team manager to multiple teams over the past decade. She appreciates the opportunity to travel and to spend time with a large extended family and many dear friends around the country.
